Homeopathy
What is Homeopathy?
In 1796, a German doctor Samuel Hahnemann discovered a different approach to healing the sick which he called Homeopathy (from the greek meaning similar suffering). He realized that there were two ways of treating ill health: the way of opposites and the way of similars.
The homeopathic way is based on the law of similars. The patient is treated with minute doses of medicines, which if given in a larger dose would produce similar symptoms to those he/she is suffering. Homeopathy is holistic in its approach, taking into consideration the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical bodies. Symptoms produced in any of these areas are seen by the homeopath as an attempt by the body to heal itself.
What will the Homeopath need to know?
In order to find the right remedy for you as an individual your homeopath will need to know all about you. You will be asked not only your physical symptoms but about yourself and how your illness affects you. You will also be asked questions about your general energy levels, past medical history and health of your family past and present.
Your homeopath can suggest changes to your lifestyle especially if it seems to be contributing to your illness. Anything you say will be treated in the strictest confidence. The initial conultation can last between one to two hours, maybe slightly less for a child.
What will the treatment be like?
Your homeopath will spend some time examining the information closely in order to find a remedy most suited to you as an individual. Then you will be sent a homeopathic remedy usually in the form of a single pill or pills, or it may be given as a liquid with instructions.
What next?
Your homeopath is able to assess your progress towards healing and is available by telephone or interview to work with you through this process. Follow up appointments are shorter and are necessary to allow for the healing and are about four to six weeks apart.
