Before I came to New Zealand I attended a one day workshop in the north of Scotland called 'New Beginnings'. Part of the workshop involved doing a Firewalk at the end of the day. I thought to myself 'I can't do that, that's crazy'. In fact I worried the whole day about the prospect of the firewalk. At the end of the day at 10pm everyone went outside and we watched a man prepare the burning hot coals. The man who was running the workshop went first, then the first workshop participant walked, then another, then another. It looked so easy! Never underestimate the power of your mind and your thoughts. I thought to myself 'they are doing it and not getting burnt so I can do it too'. I knew then at that moment that I could do it. I took off my shoes, took a deep breath and walked over the burning hot coals, one, two, three, fours steps, that's all it took and I didn't feel a thing. It was that easy. I couldn't believe that I'd worried so much during the whole day about doing something that actually was very easy.
How often in life do we hold back and resist situations because of our fears. We tell ourselves 'I can't do it' or 'It's too far out of my reach' or 'I won't succeed'. This experience for me was very empowering because I thought - if I can do that, I can do anything. So, in 2018, take a leap of faith, get out of your comfort zone, feel the fear but do it anyway. You will be surprised and it could change your life! It was not long after this that I emigrated to NZ, something I thought I couldn't do. Namaste, Clare
